The QV House Price Index measures house price movement throughout New Zealand, providing an indicator of capital growth and how prices are trending in your area.

The Government’s new initiatives to quell the rocketing housing market were announced last week, just as house prices hit a new high for the end of March. The average value increased 7.8% nationally over the past three-month period, up from the 6.8% quarterly growth we saw in February, with the national average value now sitting at $884,447. This represents an increase of 18.2% year-on-year.

Biggest and smallest regional value changes - March quarter 2021

Gore has experienced the most value growth this quarter (18.07%), followed by Carterton (16.80%) and Stratford (16.45%). The only value loss this quarter was recorded in Mackenzie (-0.37%).
